AI for Manufacturing

Document volume in a manufacturing SME is structurally different from other sectors. Procedures under an ISO 9001 quality management system, work instructions, inspection forms, calibration records, material safety data sheets, and supplier specifications quickly add up to thousands of files. Most are written once and rarely read — yet become urgently needed during an audit or a non-conformance.

The assistant makes that archive searchable. Questions like "what is the measurement tolerance on line X" or "how must this material be stored" are answered with a citation showing which revision of which work instruction it came from. Revision control matters here: if superseded revisions remain attached, the assistant may cite them too, so withdrawn revisions should be removed from scope.

Turkey's Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 obliges employers to carry out risk assessments, prepare emergency plans, and inform workers. The output of those obligations is, again, documents: risk assessment reports, emergency action plans, PPE instructions, incident reporting procedures. A new operator is expected to read this material; in practice it usually goes unread.

The assistant turns those documents into question-and-answer form, so an operator can ask "what do I do if this chemical spills" and receive an answer sourced from the relevant MSDS or emergency plan. This does not replace training — the statutory training obligation stands — but it reduces the post-training recall problem.

In manufacturing the assistant becomes more useful when document knowledge meets live production data.
